“Finding my home at Crossfit”

By Andrea Lisowski

I’ve struggled with my weight all my life. Six years ago I decided to stop accepting the way things were and to get moving. I learned a little bit along the way and worked very hard at getting to where I thought I should be.  There were plenty of times I felt like I was spinning my wheels and not getting to my goals.  But don’t get me wrong, I was still learning plenty about weight training, conditioning and nutrition, just not enough to get me to my goal.  What was missing? I think it was people who really care enough to  find out just what would work for me.  This is what I found at Crossfit Caldwell…….

My name is Andrea and I am a 55 year old women who wants to move and stay strong for the rest of my life. I feel that crossfit is a great fit for anyone. It is meant for all to participate. It is infinitely scalable to anyone’s ability or disability and it just makes your brain happy! Don’t worry about not being in shape as Crossfit Caldwell will help you get there. Some people say that they have to get in shape to come to crossfit…… How silly. Get ready to be in the best shape of your life no matter where your starting point is.

I love coming to Crossfit Caldwell for many reasons. The first one that comes to mind is kindness and sincerity of the the owners and coaches.  Not only are they knowledgeable of how to do movements safely and properly they all know how to teach you to preform them.  I’ve learned so much in the 5 months I’ve been here.  Crossfit Caldwell really cares. I have been able to drop 25 lbs and increase my level of conditioning all because Martha, (one of the owners) truly cares about me as well as everyone else in the gym.  She helped me follow a nutritional program that is part “Zone” and part “Paleo”. This seems to work very well for a women of my age but it can be adjusted for anyone.  Crossfit Caldwell is the kind of place where people help you and cheer your accomplishments. They are always there for you.  Coach Drew is another member who motivates through kindness and I have been able to progress so much with his help.  Heck, every coach here has helped me. They’re all great!
If you are thinking of joining, please do it. You will be so happy to increase your level of fitness. The endorphins in your brain will improve your mood and the work you do here at the gym will make you feel stronger and younger! I try to make it to the gym 4-5 times during the week. I love when we run because I wasn’t able to 5 months ago. I love when we have pull ups in the workout because in these 5 months I almost have them down. I never thought this possible. I love when we have box jumps in the workout because again I was not able to do them 5 months ago. I guess I just love almost all we do because I know even if I can’t do it today I will get better at it. You will get better; you just have to start!
One of my biggest obstacles to face is my mobility. Being 55 means that I am not as limber as I would like to be but the start of each class has a warm up and stretching session geared toward the workout of the day.  This helps quite a bit but I always go in 15 minutes early for some extra stretching. I will never be 25 again but crossfit can accommodate me!
I see myself coming to Crossfit Caldwell for a very, very long time but in the coming year I would like to get better at a long list of movements and maybe  just get those pull ups!  Thank you Martha and Craig and all the wonderful coaches. You all make great things possible!
